Robert Guédiguian's film, based on George-Marc Benamou's book, stars Michel Bouquet as the late President François Mitterand.
Concentrating on the last year of his life, it is narrated by journalist Antoine Moreau (Jalil Lespert), who has been hired to write his memoirs and who becomes obsessed with Mitterand's role in the Vichy government during the war.
As the film progresses, Antoine's probing reveals the contradictions of one of Europe's last socialist leaders, from his beliefs to his philandering, and does offer a fascinating portrait of a flawed statesman who took some of his secrets to the grave.
