Remake of the classic Ealing black comedy, this time set in Mississippi. God-fearing spinster landlady Marva Munson rents a room to G Higginson Dorr, a silver-tongued college professor. She gives him permission to use the basement for rehearsals with his 'Medieval music ensemble', but what Munson doesn't know is that Dorr's latest project is criminal rather than academic. When the landlady gets suspicious the ensemble decides to silence her.
