Morten Tyldum

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing in Morten Tyldum's intense Oscar-winning drama exploring the life of the socially awkward mathematician, Second World War code-breaker, father of the modern computer and demonised homosexual. Such was the secrecy under which Turing worked to break the Nazis' secret communications codes that his outstanding contribution to the war effort was unknown when, in 1952, he was prosecuted for gross indecency and chemically castrated, a punishment that may have contributed to his presumed suicide two years later. The film's emphasis is on the code-breaking at Bletchley Park, with Commander Denniston reluctantly recruiting the apparently arrogant Turing to the cause.
