Ottway (Neeson) makes his living culling wolves that get too close to the workers at a remote Alaskan oil rig. The nature of the job, the company he is forced to keep and the isolation have left him feeling suicidally low. However, though psychologically fragile, he decides to catch the plane back to civilisation rather than take his own life. But the flight doesn't make it.
Downed in a snowstorm somewhere in the rugged wilderness, Ottway and survivors of the crash are left battling for survival against the harsh elements and the unforgiving landscape. But even that daunting prospect is overshadowed by the fact that their plane has crashed in the territory of Alaska's most efficient winter predators: grey wolves.
