This loyal adaptation of the third and final chapter in late author Stieg Larsson's hugely popular Millennium Trilogy brings closure to the gripping tale.
Following the climatic events of The Girl Who Played with Fire, hardcase hacker Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) has been hospitalised where she is awaiting trial for the attempted murder of her father Alexander Zalachenko (Georgi Staykov). A high-level Soviet spy, Zalachenko is under the protection of a clandestine Swedish agency known as 'The Section', its members deciding to protect themselves by doing away with all loose ends.
Following a failed assassination attempt on Lisbeth, The Section put their efforts into having her permanently committed to a psychiatric institution, but fortunately her old friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist's (Michael Nyqvist), is on hand to help. Getting his lawyer sister Annika (Annika Hallin) to represent the socially stunted cyber-goth, Blomkvist races to find the evidence needed to clear Lisbeth's name and prove that there's a conspiracy to keep her incarcerated.
