Denzel Washington gets tough in this adaptation of 80s TV series The Equalizer.

After making a promise to his late wife, Robert McCall has put a dark and violent past behind him in exchange for a quiet life working in a hardware shop. He eats his meals at the same local diner where he regularly runs into Teri, a girl who was forced into prostitution by mobsters. When the gang leave her badly beaten, it stirs something in McCall who sets out to free Teri from their violent grasp. But he soon learns that he hasn’t merely taken out a few local pimps, he’s started a war with the worldwide Russian Mob.

If you’re a fan of Taken and the like, you should enjoy this slick action thriller pitting another violent but virtuous – and slightly old– gentleman against a bevy of irrefutable baddies.

Director Fuqua, who previously helped Washington to Oscar glory with Training Day, injects plenty of style into this genre piece that could kick off a new action franchise
