In a captivating biopic set in the Second World War, Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (Matthew Rhys) finds himself caught in a love triangle as he falls for old flame Vera Phillips (Keira Knightley, pictured, left) despite being married to energetic, effervescent Caitlin Thomas (Sienna Miller, pictured, right).
The two women form a strong friendship despite being love rivals. Vera marries dashing and devoted Captain William Killick (Cillian Murphy) who is deployed abroad and returns a changed man. Killick becomes increasingly jealous and bitter as scandalous gossip concerning the relationship between his wife and Thomas surfaces. Overwhelming jealousy and post-traumatic stress disorder trigger Killick to commit a catastrophic crime of passion.
Director John Maybury offers an engaging insight into lust and love in the bohemian postwar years, with passionate performances from Knightley and Miller.
