Ridley Scott's directorial debut is a sweeping, sumptuous Napoleonic epic with Keith Carradine as a French officer called Armand d'Hubert who is dragged into a duel by another officer called Gabriel Feraud (Harvey Keitel) over a petty insult.
The pair meet and fight again and again over a 15 year period during their Emperor's various campaigns, including the ill-fated attack on Moscow, before honour is finally satisfied.
Based on the superb story penned by the great Joseph Conrad entitled "The Duel" this film won Ridley Scott an award for Best First Film.
