Ace San Francisco detective Inspector 'Dirty' Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) comes up against British horror film director Peter Swan (Neeson), who's filming a video for drug addict rock star Johnny Squares (Jim Carrey). Swan plays out a game with his crew known as "The Dead Pool", where they each choose a set of 10 celebrities who they think will die before the game ends. But this isn't a game: the people on Peter's list really are dying under mysterious circumstances.
The makers of The Dead Pool had a little local difficulty to overcome before shooting began. When location filming around San Francisco was first proposed, several prominent citizens protested on the grounds that Harry Callahan was not a good representative of the community. Look out for a cameo by members of Guns 'N Roses, who appear in the funeral sequence. Their song Welcome to the Jungle is used in the film.
