Adapted by the book by John Wyndham, Howard Keel plays the American naval officer whose eyes are bandaged when a shower of meteorites blinds most of humanity.
He leads an ill-assorted group of sighted people against the Triffids: 7-foot-high plants with the ability to move and attack and are attracted by sound.
Keel uses this to attract them to a saltwater grave over a cliff top.
The Day of the Triffids is a Film programme that first aired in 1962 and has been classified a 15 certificate.
