Peter Care's cult teen movie stars Emile Hirsch and Kiernan Culkin as Francis Doyle and Tim Sullivan, two rebellious teenage Catholic schoolboys who spend their spare time creating a comic book lampooning their draconian teacher Sister Assumpta. When she finds out and punishes them, they decide a suitable revenge will be drugging the town zoo's cougar and placing it in her room. Alongside the prank plotline is a darker one of Francis' love for Margie Flynn, who harbours a dark secret about her brother that leads to tragedy. Extracts from the boys' comic book are animated on screen by Todd McFarlane, who revived Spider-man and created the Spawn comic book series, later turned into a film.
