Former pool shark "Fast" Eddie Felson (the late Paul Newman) spots Vincent (Tom Cruise), a young guy with great potential going to waste in low-rent pool halls. Eddie takes the young pretender and his glamorous grifter girlfriend on the road, teaching Vince everything he knows about hustling. But as the cons get more complicated, tension between the two men mounts.
Martin Scorsese's re-rack of The Hustler has an older, wiser Paul Newman facing relegation at the hands of Hollywood newcomer Cruise. Ironically, the mature star finally won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance, some 25 years after his nomination for The Hustler.
