The Children (2008)

When two families get together for a Christmas party in a snowy woodland idyll, the scene is set for a magical festive celebration. That is until, one by one, the children begin to succumb to a strange sickness and then start viciously attacking their parents. As confusion and panic spreads the grown-ups attempt to understand why their little darlings have turned into deranged killers.

With the fantastic tagline: 'You brought them into the world, they'll take you out', this gleefully nasty taboobusting little horror might sound like trashy nonsense, but in the hands of Waz director Shankland it's terrifying stuff. Much as Hitchcock did with The Birds, Shankland manages to suspend audiences' disbelief in the potentially preposterous premise, turning in a lean, stark and unsettling 'what if?' movie that will make you think twice before telling off your toddler.
