Peter Bogdanovich's fact-based film is set on William Randolph Hearst's yacht in 1924 when film producer Thomas Ince was shot dead. No-one was ever convicted of the crime but many believe that Hearst was the killer, mistaking Ince for Charlie Chaplin who may have been having an affair with Hearst's mistress, Marion Davies.
