Jodie Foster won an Oscar for her performance as Sarah Tobias, a young woman who suffers the ordeal of multiple rape.
Although her attackers are convicted, their sentences are light because of her 'questionable character'. Enraged, she asks prosecutor Kathryn Murphy to take on a case against the men who goaded on her attackers. Murphy, at first reluctant, slowly becomes convinced that Tobias deserves justice and in tense courtroom scenes, tries to persuade the jury to bring in guilty verdicts in Jonathan Kaplan's tense, moving drama.
