The 300 Spartans (1962)

Directed by
Rudolph Maté

Rudolph Maté directs this historical drama, which recounts the famous military stand made by 300 Spartan warriors at Thermopylae in 480 BC. The nations of ancient Greece are faced with the advance of the mighty Persian army, under the seemingly indomitable control of Xerxes. In order to save themselves from subjugation, the leader of Athens and King Leonidas of Sparta form an alliance and lead a relatively small but grimly determined force to halt the Persian invasion. But will their stand at a strategic mountain pass prove to be a historic victory or simply a suicidal gesture of defiance?
