Following her mother's death, London journalist Tamara Drewe (Gemma Arterton) returns to Dorset to oversee the sale of her house. With a new nose and new-found self-confidence, the former ugly duckling causes quite a stir among the locals in the rural village of Ewedown.

Tamara quickly reconnects with former flame Andy (Luke Evans), but her encounter with cocksure drummer Ben Sergeant (Dominic Cooper) puts a hitch in his plans to make a move. Effortlessly turning heads, gorgeous Tamara also catches the eye of philandering novelist Nicholas Hardiment (Roger Allam), whose downtrodden wife (Tamsin Greig) has turned their home into a rural writers' retreat.

As Tamara and Ben's relationship progresses, local youngsters, and Sergeant superfans, Jody (Jessica Barden) and Casey (Charlotte Christie) go to great lengths to get close to their idol. But their meddling soon has incredibly serious repercussions for everyone.
