Emotional drama based on a short story by Joseph Conrad and set in a 19th-century seaside town in Cornwall. When a young woman falls in love with a shipwrecked stranger, the townspeople ostracise the lovers. Things go from bad to worse when the two marry and have a child, as the hateful residents take steps to undermine the young family's happiness.
