Lars Ekborg stars as a disaffected youth who falls for the sensuous, abandoned Monika. The two steal an idyllic summer on a deserted island on the lakes but as autumn approaches and they return to the mundanity of the city and work with her heavily pregnant, so the reality of life grinds them down until she finds another and he leaves with their child to re-make his life.
