The Klingon Empire is falling apart and they want to sue for peace. Kirk commands the USS Enterprise, which is sent to escort the race's representatives to a peace conference, but when an unprotected Klingon craft is fired on, Kirk and Dr McCoy are placed on trial for murder. Spock, left in command, has to prove their innocence by finding the traitor aboard the ship.
