Spring break has arrived and carefree college friends Candy (Vanessa Anne Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine), Brit (Ashley Benson) and Faith (Selena Gomez) have hit the road for a holiday of sun, sea, sand and utter debauchery. Things take a turn, however, when they are arrested on drug charges and bailed out by slimy rapper-cum-gangster Alien (James Franco), who inducts them into his whirlwind lifestyle of sex, drugs and violent crime.
The controversial and experimental Harmony Korine stays true to form with this riotously depraved drama. The writer/director packs as much drugs, guns and nudity as he can into each frame and mostly leaves viewers to fathom out any overarching message. While the likes of Hudgens and Gomez do their best to shed their bubblegum images, it's Franco's bizarrely brilliant performance as the cornrowed crime lord that most sticks in the memory.
