Based on Marvel Comics' superhero character, Spider-Man (released in 2002) is the story of Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) - a geeky high school student, who is bitten by a radioactive spider on a school trip. Peter then acquires a muscular physique, clear vision, the ability to cling and crawl up walls and shoot webs from his wrists. Spider-Man is born.

Elsewhere, an eccentric millionaire experiments with performance enhancing drugs on himself, succeeding only in producing an evil alter ego, the Green Goblin.

Aside from getting used to using his new powers, Peter must win his childhood sweetheart, Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst), and do battle with the Green Goblin.
