Richard Kelly creates a vision of an anarchic post-nuclear America in his star-studded follow-up to Donnie Darko. Intense sci-fi drama with a large ensemble cast.
In an alternative, but not too distant, future, America is on the brink of World War Three having suffered two nuclear attacks. The country is on red alert, with shady government agencies monitoring the people and their use of the internet. Outraged, the neo-Marxists, led by a group of stroppy Venice Beach lesbians, plot a rebellion.
Meanwhile, among this atmosphere of escalating anarchy, an amnesiac TV star (Dwayne Johnson) hooks up with a washed-up porn actress (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and a cop (Seann William Scott) searching for his doppelganger.
That's the gist, but the ensemble cast includes Mandy Moore playing the wife of memory-challenged actor Boxer Santaros (Johnson), Jon Lovitz as an LAPD cop working undercover for the neo-Marxists and Justin Timberlake (pictured) as the scripture-quoting narrator.
