French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj presents his romantic and contemporary version of the Grimm Brothers' classic fairy tale, danced to some of Gustav Mahler's most beautiful symphonies.
Acclaimed for its fluid style, wonderful pas-de-deux and the seven dwarves' dramatic acrobatic steps and mid-air Catherine wheels, Snow White's choreography was highly praised when it premiered at the Biennale de la Danse de Lyon in 2008. So too were its striking costumes, which were designed by 'l'enfant terrible' of French fashion, Jean-Paul Gautier.
This May marks the 100th anniversary of Mahler's death and, in tribute to the romantic Austrian composer's life and music, Sky Arts also presents two classical concerts, Boulez conducts Mahler No. 2, and Lucerne Festival 2006: Abbado Conducts Mahler No. 6.
