This amusing 1976 screwball comedy thiller, starring Gene Wilder, Richard Pryor and Jill Clayburgh, has shades of a seriously skewed North by Northwest. Mostly set aboard the Los Angeles-Chicago Silver Streak express, book editor George Caldwell (Wilder) boards the train and bumps into Hilly Burns (Clayburgh) who reveals she and her boss are on their way to Chicago to expose a group of art forgers. But when Caldwell sees her dead boss being dumped from the train, he finds himself caught up in the plot. When he's also thrown off the train and conveniently arrested on a minor charge, he realises that not only is he in danger but so is Hilly.
Escaping custody with petty thief Grover Muldoon (Pryor), the two manage to get back on the train. Now all the two have to do is catch the murderous gang, led by the suave Roger Devereau (Patrick McGoohan), free Hilly and stop the now driverless, runaway train from crashing through Chicago station.
