Unhappy salesgirl Mirabelle (Claire Danes) is forced to decide between two men after meeting suave divorcee Ray (Steve Martin) and grungy musician Jeremy (Jason Schwartzman). While Ray sweeps her off her feet with expensive gifts and glamorous dates, Jeremy is irresistibly dorky and completely lovable. But which man does she want to keep?
Based on Martin's poignant novel, and adapted for the big screen by Girl With The Pearl Earring producer Anand Tucker, Shopgirl is a gentle drama, superbly acted by a strong cast. While Martin takes the opportunity to add an author's knowledge to the depth of his character, Danes shines as the troubled twenty-something destined to be a heartbreaker. A bittersweet romantic drama.
