Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow star in this Farrelly brothers' romcom about perception and people's worth.
Hal Larson has taken to heart his father's death-bed advice: don't fall in love and only date beautiful women. Hal has taken this to mean purely Hollywood-pretty and slender.
But an encounter with motivational speaker Tony Robbins changes all that. Robbins hypnotises Hal so that he can only see everyone's inner beauty. Then Hal meets Rosemary Shanahan: in his eyes, she's willowy and flaxen-haired; the rest of the world sees the sweet-natured 21-stone nurse and former Peace Corps worker as she really is.
As, to Rosemary's surprise, the pair fall in love, the Farrellys use varying point-of-view shots to make merry with the disparity between Hal's idealised sylph and the real Rosemary. But what if Robbins' mesmerism wears off.
