Scenes from a Marriage (1974)

Ingmar Bergman's austere film was originally made as a six-part TV series but re-cut for this powerful work that examines a supposedly loving marriage that is slowly falling apart. Erland Josephson and Liv Ullman are a doctor and attorney first seen featured in a television programme about their successful marriage but his infidelity with a younger woman leads to divorce and then possible reconciliation but even this isn't possible in this masterpiece from one of cinema's greatest directors.
