Canadian Andrew Brown, serving in the WW2 Royal Navy, is taken prisoner by the German raider Essen which has sunk his ship which then puts in to a remote island for repairs. Brown escapes with arms. From the island's cliffs, he delays the ship's departure until British forces arrive but at a very very personal cost.
