Bourbon Room employees Sherrie (Julianne Hough) and Drew (Diego González Boneta) long to swap service for stardom, and one of them is handed an amazing break when rock god Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) is booked to perform at the club. On the night of the gig, Jaxx's opening act cancels and Sherrie persuades club owner Dennis (Alec Baldwin) to put Drew's band on in their place.
Sherrie and Drew also begin to fall in love, but can their relationship survive the pitfalls of showbusiness, and will the club survive a hate campaign spearheaded by conservative mayor's wife Patricia Whitmore (Catherine Zeta-Jones)?
