Veteran NYPD detectives Turk (Robert De Niro) and Rooster (Al Pacino) are all set for retirement when a series of homicides draw them into the toughest case of their careers. A vigilante is murdering criminals who have managed to escape justice and it's up to the two old-school cops to track the killer down. With several of their old enemies turning up dead, however, suspicion soon falls on them, causing the two old friends to close ranks and cover each other's backs as they attempt to wrap up their last case.
Working together for the first time since 1995 crime classic Heat, the legendary De Niro and Pacino finally get to share the screen for an entire movie, rather than a handful of iconic scenes. There's plenty of banter and some cracking one-liners as the dogged detectives hunt down their man, the chemistry between the two actors crackling with such energy that you'll wonder why they haven't made more films together. There's also strong support from Carla Gugino, plus an always engaging John Leguizamo and underrated Donnie Wahlberg as rival investigators Perez and Riley.
