Rescue Dawn features another full-throttle performance by the temperamental but undoubtedly gifted Christian Bale as Dieter Dengler, a US Navy pilot struggling to survive after being shot down in Laos in 1966. He survives the crash only to be pursued, and ultimately captured, by a local militia. In a prison camp, he meets more US military prisoners, some of whom have been captive for years. Downtrodden through physical and psychological torture from the camp guards, the other captives are shocked by Dengler's plans to escape, but agree to help him. With the militia's guards relentlessly pursuing the escapees, Dengler's men play a deadly game of cat and mouse where not everyone will survive.
