Since his brother's death, Tyler Hawkins' (Robert Pattinson) relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) has become increasingly strained. Often getting into trouble, the disaffected 21-year-old finds himself in a spot of bother with local cop Neil Craig (Chris Cooper). Tyler's life is given new purpose, however, when he meets Craig's beautiful daughter Ally (Emilie de Ravin).
Ally's mother died when she was 11, and, finding common ground, she and Tyler form a strong connection. But as the couple help each other come to terms with their problems, they remain unaware that tragedy lurks just around the corner.
