An inspiring drama in which a young man with supernatural powers struggles to fit into society. When he eventually discloses his special abilities the lives of those around him are changed forever.
When sheriff Barnum (Lance Henriksen) is sent to investigate the death of an elderly local rural resident, he discovers her teenage grandson living in the basement in total isolation.
Raised, from birth, by his grandparents, Powder (Sean Patrick Flanery) has only experienced the outside world through books, as he has never left the family farm. His mother was struck by lightening during her pregnancy and Powder was saved through an emergency section just moments before her death and now he has obtained the powers of telekinesis and telepathy aswell as other supernatural abilities.
After his discovery, Powder is sent to a state home for problem boys where he has real problems fitting in socially and is bullied daily. Also at the local high school, where he sent to be educated, he is harassed by classmates who just won't accept his different appearance.
His odd appearance and unusual abilities cause the small town residents to fear and ridicule him. However, not all are afraid. Some begin to view his potential and gifts with wonderment.
But the cruel taunts stop when Powder displays a mysterious power that allows him to do incredible things. This phenomenon changes the lives of all those around him in ways they never could have imagined.
