Much acclaimed period psychological mystery. On a shimmering hot day in 1900, the teachers and girls from a private school visit a local beauty spot, only for three of the girls and a teacher to, literally, disappear into thin air.
Directed by Peter Weir, his evocation of Australia at the turn of the century is as fascinating as it is sensual and mysterious. Both parable and horror story, this perplexing mystery - released in 1975 - has strong performances and wonderful locations. It is a tour-de-force.
