Pearl Harbour (2001)

Directed by
Michael Bay

Romantic drama set in World War II about an American military pilot who travels to Britain to fight in the war in Europe but goes missing in action.

Assuming he is dead, his girlfriend and best friend - who are stationed together in Hawaii - become romantically involved, but things become complicated when he comes back alive, just in time for the devastating Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour.

Although Pearl Harbour would go on to become a box office success, the critics were less than impressed, with the acting and convoluted love story coming in for most criticism.

However, the visual effects, especially during the attack itself, are outstanding and ensures that the weaker aspects of the plot do not overshadow what is otherwise an extremely watchable epic.
