Multi-Oscar-winning, fact-based, Second World War drama starring George C Scott as the US commander General George Patton. The narrative tracks Patton as he galvanises demoralised US troops to successes against the Axis Powers in North Africa, before leading them to take part in the annexation of Sicily. However, his self-acknowledged prima donna tendencies and his maverick attitudes and actions set him at odds with Britain's Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery. And his aggressive ill-treatment of a battle-fatigued soldier results in Patton being relieved of his command, leaving him fearful of having no further active role in defeating Hitler. The movie took seven Academy Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director, plus Oscars for its screenplay, art and set direction, sound and editing.
