On the verge of marrying his beloved Giselle (Jane Krakowski), fast-talking mule deer Elliot (Joel McHale) has his plans thwarted when his sausage dog pal Mr Weenie (Cody Cameron) is kidnapped by a group of preening pets. Led by pompous poodle Fifi (Crispin Glover), the cultured canines are determined to return Mr Weenie to his owners. As Elliot and his woodland chums, including Boog the bear (Epps) and McSquizzy the squirrel (Billy Connolly), mount a rescue, the pampered pooches soon show they're not about to hand back Mr Weanie without a fight.
Original stars Aston Kutcher and Martin Lawrence probably won't be pleased to hear their decision to not reprise their roles in this cheap and cheerful animation sequel has had little bearing on the finished film. With the wonderfully creepy Glover lending his voice to the villainous Fifi and Connolly returning as the spirited McSquizzy, there's more than enough talent on display to elevate the film above its straight-to-DVD status.
Either way, with plenty of poop jokes, cutsey characters and lively adventure, Open Season 2 is almost guaranteed to keep kids quiet throughout and recommendations don't come much higher than that.
