My Winnipeg (2007)

Directed by
Guy Maddin

Sky Arts celebrates the work of Canadian writer/director Guy Maddin with an evening of his films, including the UK Premiere of My Winnipeg, Maddin's extraordinary visual homage to his hometown.

Equal parts personal history, city chronicle and deranged fantasy, My Winnipeg blends elements of Canadian mythology with traumatic episodes from its creator's life. In his narration, Maddin declares: "I need to get out of here... what if I film my way out?"

But Winnipeg is a city that captivates and inspires him as much as it drives him away. He's not likely to leave and he knows it.

Maddin's seamless mix of animation, re-enactments and archive footage create a weird and wonderful docu-fantasy in honour of the city that made him the writer he is today.
