Margaret Rutherford stars in the last of her four Miss Marple whodunits for MGM; the only one from an original screenplay rather than based on an Agatha Christie novel. Shortly after Miss Marple joins the board of a trust that aims to put young criminals on the straight-and-narrow via a quasi-naval set-up, one of the organisers is found dead. Discovering that the deceased's snuff had been poisoned, the genteel detective insists on going aboard the trust's HMS Battledore, where the youngsters are rehabilitated. Far from solving the case, her presence prompts a further rash of killings. So the spirited spinster decides the only way to catch the culprit is to put herself in harm's way.
