Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon star in writer/director Jeff Nichols' tale about two 14-year-old boys who stumble across a fugitive hiding away on a small island in rural Mississippi.
Ellis and Neckbone play the intrepid teens who find a boat mysteriously stuck up in a tree on a desolate island, one being used as makeshift lodgings by the even more mysterious Mud. It soon becomes clear Mud's in serious trouble, and the boys help him avoid the state troopers and vicious bounty hunters trying to track him down - and reunite him with his estranged love Juniper.
It's a film coated in southern romance and mysticism, while avoiding the schlock so often found in films basking in rural idealism.
