When his father dies, selfish property developer Tom Popper (Jim Carrey) inherits six pet penguins. Before he can get rid of the flightless flappers his kids fall in love with them, and the divorced dad reluctantly decides to keep them in his swanky bachelor pad.
The presence of his adorable new houseguests causes Tom to soften, and he even begins dating ex-wife Amanda (Carla Gugino) again, but his new caring attitude soon begins to clash disastrously with his ruthless line of work.
A chilly treat for the whole family, kids will love this sweet tale and its adorable avian actors. With a script based on Richard and Florence Atwater's 1938 book, Mean Girls director Mark Waters keeps proceedings on a predictable but pleasant path.
With a restrained turn from Carrey and a highly skilled blending of real animals and CGI, it's the penguins that steal the show.
