This is a very sophisticated and romantic comedy about the loves, jealousies and entanglements of an Italian-American family in Brooklyn.
The film sees a very independent woman called Loretta Castorini (Cher) who has decided to marry an older, and timid man who goes by the name of Johnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello).
However things start to go awry when Johnny has to leave Loretta for a short time to go home and visit his ailing mother.
While he is away, Loretta finds herself inexorably drawn to his misfit younger brother, Ronny (Nicolas Cage) who is a bakery worker who has an unbounded love for opera and life.
The film is a quirky blend of wit and romanticism that explores the tangled relationships and foibles that besiege a close-knit Italian-American family.
Winner of three Academy Awards for Best Actress (Cher), Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay.
