Richard Attenborough stars in Les Mayfield's charming remake of the 1947 classic as Kris Kringle, who insists he really is Santa Claus.
Kringle gets a job at Cole's department store on 34th Street thanks to toy department executive Dorey Walker, who, like her daughter Susan, doesn't believe in Santa Claus. But such is Kringle's success that a rival store, which is losing money, decides to have him declared insane for his insistence on his identity.
The case comes to trial, with Bryan Bedford, Dorey's would-be-suitor, acting for Kringle, out to prove that he really is Santa Claus, knowing that failure will break the hearts of children all over the world.
Miracle on 34th Street is a Film programme that first aired in 1994 and has been classified a U certificate.
