Ray Milland directs and stars in this taut spy thriller set in the city of Lisbon. He plays American smuggler Robert John Evans who's hired by the enigmatic, beautiful Sylvia Merrill to go behind the Iron Curtain to locate her missing husband Lloyd. But she'd prefer him to be brought back dead rather than alive - she just needs his body in order to claim his fortune. But Evans is no fool and realises that Merrill and her co-conspirator Aristide Mavros won't need him after he's done the job. Can he double-bluff them in time to save his own skin?
