Racing car driver and engineer Carroll Shelby is lured out of retirement during the 1960s, in a period where the sport is dominated by Italian companies. Ford Motors are hoping to revive their flagging fortunes by launching a racing division and securing a high-profile win at the prestigious Le Mans 24-hour race. Shelby takes up the challenge of headlining the plan to build a revolutionary new race car, but courts conflict within the company by recruiting unpredictable, short-tempered British driver Ken Miles to take the wheel.
