This big budget 2005 Oscar-winning remake of the classic monster movie is a class act all round. Directed by Peter Jackson, Naomi Watts plays Ann Darrow, a Depression-era down-on-her-luck actress who accepts an offer from film-maker Carl Denham (Jack Black) to star in a film shot on mysterious Skull Island, which is teeming with prehistoric life.
While there, Ann is abducted by natives who offer her as a sacrifice to a giant ape, which instead of harming the starlet becomes smitten with her. The film crew manage to capture the ape and bring it back to Manhattan to exhibit as a showpiece, but on the show's opening night, things go horribly awry...
A spectacular film, with some tremendous effects, it's more elaborate and considerably longer than the 1930s original and the 1976 remake, running at a hefty 205 minutes.
