This Shaw Brothers action-adventure, also known as Five Fingers of Death, was hugely influential as it was the first kung fu movie to make a big impact in the United States. It stars Lo Lieh, Wang Ping and Chao Hsiung in a tale about two competing martial arts schools vying to win a competition. There's a love story with Sung Ying Ying buried in the plot, but the film is mostly concerned with the trajectory of the hero Chao Chi-hao from hard-grafting novice to hard-hitting martial arts expert, and the vengeance he's ultimately able to dispense with his Iron Fist technique. As the story unfolds, the fighting with fists, knives and whatever comes to hand becomes ever more bloody and frantic, which is just as it should be for fans of the genre.
