William Keane (Damian Lewis) is a broken man, desperately searching for his 6-year-old daughter who was abducted from the Port Authority bus terminal days, weeks or even months ago whilst he was distracted.
Keane is repeatedly drawn to the site of the abduction during the day, relentless searching and compulsively going over the events of that fateful day. Muttering to himself and causing a fracas with passers-by, he continuously pleads for help from indifferent authorities. Whilst at night, he spends his meager savings on alcohol and drug induced self-destructive behaviour, teetering on the edge of sanity.
One day he meets Lynn (Amy Ryan), a young single mother with a daughter, Kyra (Abigail Breslin), almost the same age as Keane's missing child. As he becomes increasingly attached to Lynn and Kyra, he starts to see the young girl as instrumental in deciphering his own loss.
