A geology professor from Edinburgh teams up with a student, a local farmhand and an explorer's young widow to travel to the centre of the earth via a volcano in Iceland. Once there, the group encounters dangerous beasts and rock slides and finds the lost city of Atlantis - and comes face to face with a rival expedition.
